The country of Sri Lanka is located in the Indian Ocean just south of India. Sri Lanka is a very popular touristic destination because of its archaeology and its great beaches. Most of the country consists of flat plains. Some mountains do rise in the south central portion of the country but its highest peak is only 2,524 meters (8,281 feet) above sea level. The country will mostly experience warm and tropical climate. Frost can occur a few days a year in the south central highlands but the rest of the country has very stable weather year round. Sri Lanka weather is influenced a lot by the Indian Ocean and the monsoon. Tropical cyclones are also a possibility when you are visiting the country of Sri Lanka.
